Environmental risks identified at Poček training grounds

Researchers have identified the risk of spills of hazardous substances and fires at the Poček training grounds near Postojna. The Defence Ministry says that military activities in the area have no harmful impact on the drinking water, but it does plan to expand monitoring efforts at the initiative of local authorities.

MPs pass cannabis referendum motion

The National Assembly decided late on Wednesday to call a referendum on the use of cannabis for medical use and restricted personal use. The motion was passed with 42 votes in favour, provided by the coalition Freedom Movement and the Left. The third coalition partner, the Social Democrats, abstained, and the opposition obstructed the vote.

Competition watchdog investigating laptop suppliers

The Competition Protection Agency (AVK) has searched the premises of the companies that supplied 13,000 laptops to the state last year in a deal that led to the motion to oust Digital Transformation Minister Emilija Stojmenova Duh earlier this year. Four firms are suspected of colluding in setting the prices offered to the state.

Weather: Cold and clear

It will be mostly sunny in Slovenia on Friday, with fog possible in some low lying areas. Frost will also be possible inland, as morning lows will stand between -3 and 2 degrees Celsius, dropping as low as -5 in Alpine valleys and the plateaus of the Notranjska region. Daytime highs will climb to between 10 and 16 degrees.

Govt approves talks for Slovenia's full membership in ESA

The government approved on Wednesday the start of negotiations for Slovenia's full membership in the European Space Agency (ESA), arguing that the membership will bring many advantages to Slovenia, including opportunities for the country's space sector to participate in ESA programmes.
