Golob insists on plan to form govt by 3 June

Robert Golob was adamant on Wednesday to stick to his plan to form a new government by 3 June despite the opposition Democrats (SDS) tabling a referendum motion that will delay changes to the government makeup as planned by the new coalition. He will redistribute the ministerial posts to match the existing government act.

SDS files for another referendum, on changes to RTV Slovenija act

The Democrats (SDS) filed on Wednesday a motion to call a referendum on the changes to the RTV Slovenija act after the party submitted them to parliament on Friday. The motion will delay the final decision on the changes, which the emerging coalition led by the Freedom Movement intended to vote down during today's emergency session.

Slovenian property market with a record year in 2021

The Slovenian property market saw a record year in 2021 in terms of increase in prices and the number of transactions involving land for residential buildings, with the commercial property market also being revived. The Surveying and Mapping Authority has reported more than 37,000 transactions worth a total of EUR 2.9 billion.

New parliamentary speaker wants to raise level of communication

National Assembly Speaker Urška Klakočar Zupančič says she knows how to "leave her political convictions at the door" and will be the first among equals to listen to all MPs. However, she will also speak up when necessary. The speaker believes that MPs should realise they are in parliament to serve people, not to "put on reality shows".

National Assembly to vote on changes in government structure

The National Assembly will take a vote on Wednesday on changes to the government act with which the emerging coalition proposes a new structure of the government, consisting of 19 ministries and one government office. While the coalition thinks this will improve efficiency, the opposition has argued the result would be the opposite.
