PM says not all losses can be covered, no major cuts in resident's income planned

Prime Minister Janez Janša told the National Assembly on Monday that there was not enough money in the budget to compensate for all losses incurred by the coronavirus pandemic, but that the government could mitigate the consequences to the greatest extent possible. He said no major cuts into people's income was planned.

Tourism virtually dead in April

The Covid-19 lockdown meant Slovenia recorded no tourist arrivals in April, while the number of recorded overnight stays was 11,000. This is 99% less that in April 2019 and was mostly accounted for by ongoing student exchange programmes. The lockdown for tourist facilities was in place from mid-March to 18 May.

One new coronavirus infection confirmed on Sunday

Slovenian health authorities reported one new coronavirus infection on Sunday, bringing the total so far to 1,469. The death toll remained unchanged at 107, the latest government data show.

MPs discussing stimulus package, NGO restrictions this week

The National Assembly will start a three-day regular session with a Q&A session on Monday. The agenda includes the first reading of legislative changes restricting the role of environmental NGOs. On Friday, an emergency session is planned to pass a new economic stimulus package.

Ninth-graders return to school, care homes start admitting residents

Ninth-graders will return to primary schools on Monday and care homes will start admitting new residents as well as residents who returned home due to coronavirus, as part of a further easing of precautionary measures put in place to fight the coronavirus epidemic.
