Government confirms tax changes

The government confirmed on Monday a set of changes to five tax laws that for the most part reverse the tax cuts put in place by the previous government in a bid to shore up public finances and fashion a tax system that is more distributive.

RTV Slovenija staff step up strike due to worsening working conditions

A large number of journalists and other employees at public broadcaster RTV Slovenija stepped up strike activities on Monday due to what they see as deteriorating working conditions and escalating bullying. The broadcaster's content was reduced, but not to the extent that the staff planned.

Golob doesn't expect change in Italian govt to affect bilateral dialogue

PM Robert Golob expects dialogue between Slovenia and Italy to continue as normal even if Sunday's Italian general elections were won by the post-fascist party Brothers of Italy. He said on Monday it is important to remember that we live in the EU, a union of equal countries in which governments change, just as they change in Slovenia.

Aleš Zupančič new director of Geoplin gas supplier

The shareholders of state-owned gas supplier Geoplin have dismissed director Vanja Lombar and appointed Aleš Zupančič to replace her for a full five-year term, Geoplin said on Monday. The state owns 25% in Geoplin, with partly state-owned energy company Petrol holding 74%.

Austrian power utility Verbund has been declared liable for the damage caused by the swollen river Drava in November 2012 as the Maribor Local Court issued the first judgement concerning the flooding after years of court procedures.

Diesel cheaper from tomorrow, petrol flat

Filling up will be cheaper from Tuesday as prices outside motorways drop slightly. Diesel, at EUR 1.603 per litre, will be 8 cents cheaper, whereas the price of petrol will go down by a tenth of a cent to EUR 1.353, the Economy Ministry said on Monday.

Government projects EUR 5bn in energy crisis outlays in 2023

The government is planning measures worth nearly EUR 5 billion to fight the energy crisis in 2023, Prime Minister Robert Golob announced in parliament on Monday. "This is how much money we'll spend to get through this energy winter unscathed," he said.
