Ministry unveils proposal for Demographic Fund

The Finance Ministry has unveiled its proposal for a transformation of the state-run KAD fund into the Demographic Fund, which is meant to shore the country's pension system in the long run. The idea is to secure up to a ten-fold increase of the fund's capital by 2040.

German government expects border decision to be respected

The German government expects that Slovenia and Croatia will respect the decision of the border arbitration tribunal, which is to deliver its decision on Thursday. The decision made in accordance with the bilateral agreement is expected to be implemented in six months, the German Embassy said in a press release on Wednesday.

Number of newborns decreasing, life expectancy increasing

A total of 20,345 children were born in Slovenia last year, an average 56 a day. This is the ninth consecutive generation of more than 20,000 children, but the number keeps decreasing each year, due to smaller generations of women in the reproductive age (15-49 years).
