Opposition asks top court to review Palestine recognition

The centre-right opposition has asked the Constitutional Court to review Slovenia's recognition of Palestine, a move that parliament formalised in a unanimous vote in early June. The opposition MPs, who boycotted the vote, now challenge the recognition on the grounds of allegations of unconstitutionality and abuse of parliamentary procedure.

OECD recommends measures in public finance, housing market

In its latest economic review for Slovenia, the OECD recommends the government to carry out further structural reforms, in particular in the pension and healthcare systems, and in the public sector. It also sees challenges on the housing market, in decarbonisation of the economy, and gender equality.

Jobless total falls to new all-time low in June

A total of 43,369 people were registered as unemployed at the Employment Service at the end of June, down 1.6% on May and 6.1% on a year ago, and the lowest number on record in independent Slovenia.

Thousands of unexploded WWII bombs still below ground in Slovenia

Eighty years since the Allied powers began bombing Europe to defeat Germany in the WWII, some 6,000 unexploded bombs are still estimated to be below ground in Slovenia. Because of the danger they represent, historian Sašo Radovanovič has been calling for better regulation and mapping of danger zones.

Parliamentary parties discussing preferential vote

Prime Minister Robert Golob will host on Wednesday a consultation with all parties in parliament about preferential voting in parliamentary elections. The parties will seek to find a solution for changing the voting system after preferential vote received strong support in the 9 June referendum.
