Slovenia return to Billie Jean King Cup elite as lucky losers

The Slovenia women's national tennis team returned to the World Group of the Billie Jean King Cup for the 2026 season after all, as despite losing the qualifying match with Portugal last week, they squeaked in as the "lucky losers" by virtue of being the best-ranked team that failed to qualify directly.

Slovenian basketball talent Sivka picked in 1st round of WNBA draft

Ajša Sivka, a 19-year-old Slovenian basketball talent, has been selected by the Chicago Sky as the 10th overall pick of the first round of the 2025 WNBA Draft. While she is the second Slovenian to be picked by a WNBA team thus far, she will be the first one to actually play in the strongest women's basketball league in the world.

Slovenia narrowly miss handball worlds

The Slovenian women's handball team narrowly missed a berth at the upcoming World Handball Championship. After playing out a 29:29 draw against Serbia at home in the final round of qualifying, it lost the away game 31:33 on Sunday.

Pogačar narrowly fails to win in his Paris-Roubaix debut

Slovenian cycling superstar Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) narrowly failed to win in his Paris-Roubaix debut on Sunday after a late crash. Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) from the Netherlands, bagged his third successive win over the famous cobbles. Danish racer Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) was third.
