Minister Kustec urges joint EU crisis response in sports

Minister of Education, Science and Sport Simona Kustec joined her EU counterparts in charge of sports as they supported the survival of the European model of sports, both popular and top competitive sports, in a virtual meeting on Tuesday. Kustec also called for a common approach to the organisation of sports events during the coronavirus pandemic.

Slovenia qualify for 2022 EuroBasket in Ljubljana "bubble"

The Slovenian men's basketball team has qualified for the 2022 Eurobasket with wins against Ukraine and Austria in a mini "bubble" tournament held in Ljubljana's Stožice Arena as part of the qualifying Group F. Slovenia will thus be defending their gold medal from the previous European championship in 2017.

Slag as innovative solution for sports infrastructure

The steel maker SIJ will be joining forces with the Slovenian Olympic Committee in putting its by-product, slag, to good use in the construction of sustainable pump tracks. The project is in line with the principles of circular economy and will also reduce the use of natural resources, the Olympic Committee said on Monday.

Slovenia expects EU guidelines on ski season

The government has not yet taken a position regarding Italy's appeal to close ski centres around Europe during the December holidays, the Economy Ministry told the STA on Wednesday. The ministry expects the European Commission to send recommendations for the skiing season to member states.

Goran Dragić announces he is staying with Miami Heat

Goran Dragić, one of the only two Slovenian players in the National Basketball Association (NBA), has announced that he is staying with the Miami Heat, reportedly for another two years. "I'm glad that I can announce that I'm staying with my Miami Heat. Let's finish the job we started!" he said on Twitter.
