Jan Polanc takes pink jersey at Giro d'Italia

Slovenian cyclist Jan Polanc won the pink jersey at the Giro d'Italia on Thursday after finishing in the leading group of cyclists in stage 12 of the race. Polanc (UAE Emirates) is followed in the overall rankings by Slovenia's star rider Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma), in what is the first Slovenian double lead ever at the Giro.

Slovenian cycling embroiled in intl doping scandal

After two Slovenian cyclists were suspended over blood doping suspicion last week, the world body for sports cycling, UCI, is now focussing its investigation on the Slovenian cycling connection to the Operation Aderlass blood doping ring. Slovenian police are also taking part in the international investigation led by Germany.

Spots for Slovenian Half Ironman race filling fast

Four months before the start of the second Half Ironman event in Slovenia, about 1,000 athletes have registered for the race, which is capped at 1,800 participants this year. Despite hopes by organisers that Ironman 70.3 Slovenian Istria will become a professional event, it will remain a recreational race this year.
