Thousands of metalheads expected on the banks of the Soča

The pristine nature at the Soča river in Tolmin (W) will turn a slightly darker colour starting Sunday, as thousands of heavy metal music fans will pitch their tents for another edition of the internationally acclaimed MetalDays festival, the largest music event in the country.

Ljubljana hosting two major beach volley tournaments

A men's CEV Masters and a women's CEV Satellite beach volley tournament will be played in Ljubljana between Thursday and Saturday, with qualifiers starting today. A total of 55 male pairs and 41 female pairs will participate in what is expected to be the biggest beach volley spectacle in Slovenia so far.

Slovenian football champions Maribor made it to the third round of the UEFA Champions League qualifiers after drawing with Bosnia-Herzegovina champions Zrinjski of Mostar 1:1 at home on Wednesday for an aggregate score of 3:2.

Basketball team gather for EuroBasket training camp

The Slovenian men's national basketball team have gathered in Zreče for the training camp for the 2017 EuroBasket in September. Head coach Igor Kokoškov currently has 17 players at his disposal, including teenage prodigy Luka Dončić, naturalised American Anthony Randolph and veteran Erazem Lorbek, who is making his comeback to the national team.

Slovenia officially out of Volleyball World League elite

The worst fears of the Slovenian national volleyball team have materialised as they will indeed not play in the elite division of the World League despite qualifying for it. The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has decided to establish a new, commercial competition with 16 teams, which will not feature Slovenia.
