Primož Roglič regains overall lead at Vuelta after stage win

Slovenian cycling ace Primož Roglič (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe) has reclaimed the Vuelta a Espana's red jersey from Australia's Ben O'Connor (Decathlon AG2R), putting one minute and 54 seconds into him. Roglič is back in the overall lead after winning stage 19 on Friday.

Tomaž Vesel withdraws as candidate for EU commissioner

Tomaž Vesel has withdrawn as candidate for EU commissioner and PM Robert Golob has accepted his withdrawal, Golob's office said on Friday. Vesel said that based on talks with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen he had concluded that they had divergent views on the functioning of the new European Commission.

Suicide rate in Slovenia in decline

Slovenia's suicide rate, measured as the number of suicides per 100,000 people, dropped to 16.96 last year, the lowest in the last decade. The rate fluctuated in 2014-2023 but a declining trend has been recorded in recent years and the rate has stabilised in the last three years, show data released ahead of World Suicide Prevention Day.

German MPs visit Slovenia to discuss economic cooperation

A delegation of the Committee on Economic Affairs of the German parliament paid a visit to Slovenia this week to meet with Economy Minister Matjaž Han and the Slovenian parliamentary Economy Committee. In focus of the talks were the strengthening of European competitiveness and possibilities to improve bilateral trade relations.

Kanal ready for 45th edition of Kogoj Days

Kogoj Days, an annual 45th international festival of classical music, is opening in the town of Kanal in the west on Friday, featuring musicians from Slovenia and abroad who will give ten concerts until 13 October. Most of them will take place in the church in Kanal while the final concert will be held across the border in Italy.
