Schedule of Events for Thursday, 5 January

LJUBLJANA - The cabinet is to meet for its weekly session at which it is expected to discuss Slovenia's fishing zone code, the draft bill on commerce chambers, the draft bill on financial conglomerates and the draft bill on real estate trading. A press conference is scheduled for after the session, expectedly at 2 PM. (STA)

BRDO PRI KRANJU - President Janez Drnovsek is expected to address at 2 PM Slovenian diplomats who have gathered for the 12th traditional meeting. The meeting focuses on Slovenia's preparations for the EU presidency in 2008. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - The new management of flag carrier Adria Airways is to hold a news conference at 11 AM to outline the situation at the company and plans to bring it out of the red. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - The parliament's privileges and credentials commission is to meet at 9 AM to draft a proposal of members to sit on the new Programming Council and the supervisory board of public broadcaster RTV Slovenija. Both bodies need to be appointed by 12 January.

AMMAN, Jordan - Interior Minister Dragutin Mate and director general of the Slovenian Police Joze Romsek are to begin a four-day official visit to Jordan to visit Slovenian police instructors who are training Iraqi police forces there, and meet Jordanian officials.

LJUBLJANA - A ceremony scheduled for 7 PM is to mark 70 years of "Sodobnost", the oldest Slovenian literary journal. The event will take place at Cankarjev dom and is expected to be attended by President Janez Drnovsek and Culture Minister Vasko Simoniti.

LJUBLJANA - The Slovenian Woman of the Year for 2005, as selected by readers of the women's magazine "Jana", is to be declared at a special ceremony beginning at Ljubljana Opera House at 5 PM.
