Ljubljana, 1 February - Below is a schedule of events for Thursday, 2 February:
LJUBLJANA - The cabinet is to hold its weekly session. The agenda includes changes to the media act and oversight of state aid. A press conference is scheduled for after the session, expectedly at 2 PM. (STA)
LJUBLJANA - Swedish Parliament Speaker Bjoern von Sydow is to pay a visit to Slovenia. He is to meet his Slovenian counterpart France Cukjati and other leading Slovenian officials. Moreover, von Sydow is to deliver a lecture on strengthening democracy in the EU at the Ljubljana Faculty of Social Sciences. Cukjati and von Sydow are to speak to the press at 10:30 AM. (STA)
LJUBLJANA - Parliament is to resume its monthly session at 9 AM. The day's agenda includes the changes to the public sector wage system and the changes to the state solicitor's office act. The lawmakers will vote on the changes to the National Housing Savings Scheme act.
LJUBLJANA - The Slovenian foundation concerned with psychosocial wellbeing of children, TOGETHER, is to hold a press conference at 11 AM to outline its project of offering psychological assistance to traumatised children and parents in Iraq.
LJUBLJANA - President Janez Drnovsek is to hold a press conference at 4 PM to outline the latest developments related to his Darfur appeal.
LJUBLJANA - The Consumer Protection Office is to sign an agreement at noon with the International Consumer Research and Testing Institute on price monitoring during Slovenia's euro changeover. (STA)
LJUBLJANA - The Chamber of Commerce and Industry is to hand out awards for outstanding business achievements. A press conference is to precede the award ceremony at 2 PM.
CELJE - Grocer Engrotus is to present business results for 2005 and plans for this year at a press conference scheduled for 10 AM.
MARIBOR - A project to promote Slovenian language studies in the country's EU neighbours and in Poland is to be presented to the press at 10 AM.
NOVA GORICA - An ad-hoc group of local officials is to present a petition urging President Janez Drnovsek to grant amnesty to Danilo Kovacic, the former CEO of gaming company Hit who was sentenced to several years in prison for abuse of office; at 11 AM.
LJUBLJANA - The Jurcic Award is to be given out at a ceremony scheduled for 7 PM. The award was introduced by publisher Nova revija and the Slovenian Writers' Association in 1993 to reward journalists for truthfulness as a moral principle of Slovenian journalism. (STA)
LJUBLJANA - The Peace Institute and the Info Centre of the Council of Europe are to host a panel on the media, self-censorship and multiculturalism at noon, sponsored by the UK Embassy in Ljubljana.
LJUBLJANA - An exhibition of gouaches by acclaimed painter Zoran Music (1909-2005) is to open at the Mala galerija gallery at 8 PM. (STA)
