Ljubljana, 1 March - Below is a schedule of events for Thursday, 2 March:
LJUBLJANA/CELJE - The President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso will be on the final day of his two-day visit to Slovenia. Barroso is scheduled to address a plenary session of the National Assembly (10 AM) and hold meetings with PM Janez Jansa (8:30 AM), Speaker France Cukjati (9:50 AM) and President Janez Drnovsek (11:10 AM). Jansa and Barosso are to hold a press conference at 9:20 AM. Meanwhile, European commissioners Margaret Wallstroem and Janez Potocnik, who are accompanying Barroso on the visit, are to head to Celje in the afternoon to meet young people. (STA/PHOTO)
LJUBLJANA - Parliament is to resume its February session at 10 AM. The day's agenda includes the second readings of the bill on Slovenians abroad and bill on archives. (STA)
LJUBLJANA - At its weekly session the cabinet is scheduled to debate its response to questions from the Council of Europe about secret prisons for terrorist suspects, changes to the parliamentary elections act and legislation for speeding up denationalisation procedures. BREGENZ, Austria - Transport Minister Janez Bozic is to be taking part in an informal meeting of EU transport ministers, which is to focus on road safety.
PARIS, France - Slovenian Armed Forces Chief-of-Staff, Major General Ladislav Lipic, is to begin a two-day visit to France at the invitation of his French counterpart, General Henri Bentegeat.
LJUBLJANA - The National Council is to host a debate on bird flu in Slovenia, starting at 10 AM.
MARIBOR - The Slovenian Committee on Climate is to meet to debate climate change and efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Environment Minister Janez Podobnik, who chairs the committee, is to speak to the press ahead of the meeting, at 3:50 PM.
LJUBLJANA - The Manager Association is to stage a debate on the single-tier management system; at 9 AM.
LJUBLJANA - Peter Jancic is to take over as the new editor-in-chief of Slovenia's leading newspaper house Delo after he was appointed on Tuesday. Jancic, who turns 40 in June, has worked for the Maribor-based daily Vecer since 1991.
LJUBLJANA - The Jurcic Award is to be given out at a ceremony scheduled 7 PM. The award was introduced by publisher Nova revija and the Slovenian Writers' Association in 1993 to reward truthfulness as a moral principle of Slovenian journalism. (STA/PHOTO)
LJUBLJANA - Three festivals to be hosted by the Cankarjev dom in March are to be presented to the press at 11 AM: a festival of documentary film, a new festival of experimental music and one on Argentine culture.
