LJUBLJANA/POSTOJNA/BRDO PRI KRANJU - Latvian Prime Minister Aigars Kalvitis, who is on an official visit to Slovenia, is to hold talks with PM Janez Jansa (9 AM) and Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel (10:50 AM). Jansa and Kalvitis are to speak to the press at 10:20 AM. Kalvitis will also be received by President Janez Drnovsek (2:45 PM) and Parliament Speaker France Cukjati (6:45 PM). (STA/PHOTO)
BRUSSELS, Belgium - The EU Competitiveness Council will try to reach agreement on the 7th Framework Programme on science and research, whose main sticking point if the funding of stem cell research. State Secretary at the Ministry of Higher Education and Science Dusan Lesjak is to represent Slovenia.
BRUSSELS, Belgium - EU home and justice ministers are to debate the preparations for the second-generation Schengen Information System (SSIS II), a precondition for the expansion of the Schengen passport-free area. Interior Minister Dragutin Mate and Justice Minister Lovro Sturm will be representing Slovenia.
LJUBLJANA - Social partners are to continue with negotiations on amendments to the employment relationships act; at 10 AM.
LJUBLJANA - Minister of Labour, Family and Social Affairs Janez Drobnic is to meet Japanese Deputy Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare Kiochi Nakano at 9 AM.
LJUBLJANA - The Health Insurance Institute (ZZZS) is to present results for the first six months of the year at a press conference scheduled for noon.
KOPER - Environment Minister Janez Podobnik is to meet the management board of port operator Luka Koper. A press statement is scheduled for 10:45 AM.
LJUBLJANA - President Janez Drnovsek is to receive the credentials of newly-appointed ambassadors of Peru and Chile, Harry Belevan-McBride and Milenko Skoknic, at 1:15 PM and 2:15 PM respectively. The new ambassadors are also expected to deliver copies of credentials to Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel.
LJUBLJANA - The Association Slovenia - Russia is to hold a press conference at 11 AM ahead of celebrations of the 90th anniversary of the construction of the Russian Chapel below the Vrsic mountain pass.
KOPER - Slovenia is to take on Poland in a friendly fixture in the run-up to the World Basketball Championships in Japan; at 8 PM.
KOPER - Rumena Noc, the biggest outdoor festival in the coastal region of Primorsko, is to kick off; until 30 July.
