Ljubljana, 23 August - Below is a schedule of events for Thursday, 24 August:

LJUBLJANA - The government is to convene its first regular session after the summer recess. A press conference is scheduled for 2 PM. (STA/PHOTO)

LJUBLJANA - The executive committee of the coalition New Slovenia (NSi) is to scrutinise the party's preparations for the local elections. NSi president Andrej Bajuk is expected to make a press statement at 8 PM.

VIENNA, Austria - Borut Pahor, the president of the Social Democrats (SD), is to take part in a traditional meeting of social democratic leaders. The event is hosted by the heads of the Austrian and German social democrats, Alfred Gusenbauer and Kurt Beck.

LJUBLJANA - The Liberal Democrats (LDS) are to present their candidate for mayor of Ljubljana, Jozef Kunic, at noon. LDS president Jelko Kacin is also expected to speak to the press.

VELENJE - The chief executive of hardware trader Merkur, Bine Kordez, is to present the company's plans for this year at the opening of a new Merkur retail centre at 9 AM.

SAPORRO, Japan - Slovenia and China will face-off in the final match of the preliminary round at the World Basketball Championships, which will determine who will make it to the playoffs. The game begins at 6:30 AM CET. (STA)

DOMZALE - Domzale will be defending a one-goal advantage against Hapoel Tel Aviv in the return leg of the second round of qualifying for the UEFA Cup. Kick-off is at 7:30 PM. (STA)

MARIBOR - Maribor will fight for survival in the UEFA Cup as it chases a one-goal gap to Partizan of Belgrade in the return leg of the second round of qualifying. The game begins at 9 PM. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - The organisers of the 13th Ex Ponto festival of contemporary theatre are to present the programme at a press conference at 11 AM.
