Ljubljana, 19 December - Below is a schedule of events for Wednesday, 20 December:

LJUBLJANA - Before breaking for Christmas holidays, parliament is to take a vote on Zdenka Cebasek Travnik, who was put forward by President Janez Drnovsek for the post of human rights ombudsman. Behind closed doors, deputies will also debate a report on the work of the Intelligence Oversight Commission in 2005. Prior to the session, heads of parliamentary factions are to get together with the speaker at 9 AM to determine the parliamentary agenda for the first two months of next year. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - The parliamentary EU Affairs Committee is to meet behind closed doors at 8 AM to debate Slovenia's position on the EU's draft position regarding three chapters of negotiations with Croatia. A statement by the chair Anton Kokalj is scheduled for 9:45 AM.

LJUBLJANA - A regular weekly government session is to begin at 10 AM with the agenda including the bill amending the financial operations of companies act and the proposal of the operational programme for curbing greenhouse gases emissions.

LJUBLJANA - The Government Institute for Macroeconomic Analysis and Development is to present its report "Social Outlook 2006"; at 9 AM. (STA)

LJUBLJANA - The European Commission Representation Office is to present the findings of the autumn Eurobarometer survey for Slovenia at a press conference scheduled for 11 AM. (STA)

ILIRSKA BISTRICA - A panel themed "Schengen in 2008?" is to open at % PM, featuring Croatian Ambassador Mario Nobilo and the head of the European Commission Representation to Slovenia Mihela Zupancic, among others.

LJUBLJANA - The opposition Liberal Democrats (LDS) and Social Democrats are to hold a joint press conference at noon to present their remarks to the government-sponsored regionalisation bill.

LJUBLJANA - The Mapping and Surveying Authority is to hold a press conference at noon to present the national network of permanent GPS stations.

LJUBLJANA - The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) is to hold a regular assembly to discuss the 2007 financial plan and programme of work; at 2 PM.

LJUBLJANA - French Ambassador Chantal de Ghaisne de Bourmont is to pay a courtesy visit to Public Administration Minister Gregor Virant at noon.

LJUBLJANA - Ljubljana Archbishop and Metropolitan Alojz Uran is to present this year's Christmas message at a press conference scheduled for noon.

ROME, Italy - Lottomatica of Rome are to play Slovenia's Union Olimpija in the 9th round of Europe's strongest basketball competition, the Euroleague (group B). The tip-off is at 8:45 PM.
