Ljubljana, 15 January - Below is a schedule of events for Tuesday, 16 January:

LJUBLJANA - Albert Rohan, UN deputy special envoy for negotiations on the future status of Kosovo, will be visiting Slovenia for a tete-a-tete with Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel (12:15 PM). A meeting with State Secretary Andrej Ster is also scheduled (11:30 AM). (STA/PHOTO)

LJUBLJANA - The Council for Slovenians in Neighbouring Countries, a government advisory body established in 2006 as part of the legislation on Slovenians abroad, is to begin its work with an inaugural session at 3 PM, convened by Prime Minister Janez Jansa. The session is expected to address the status of the Slovenian language in the neighbouring countries and cooperation among Slovenian minority organisations as well as between Slovenian minorities and Slovenia proper. LJUBLJANA - The parliamentary Defence Committee is to convene a session at 2 PM to get briefed on the security situation in Iraq and to review a report on an inquiry into allegations about sexual harassment of two members of the Slovenian Armed Forces, among other things.

LJUBLJANA - President Janez Drnovsek is scheduled to receive the incoming Romanian and Lithuanian Ambassadors for separate courtesy visits. While Romania's Dana Manuela Constantinescu is to present her credentials at 11 AM, Giedrius Poudziunas of Lithuania is to present his at noon. (STA)

DRESDEN, Germany - The informal meeting of EU ministers responsible for justice and home affairs is to conclude. The event is being attended by Interior Minister Dragutin Mate and Justice Minister Lovro Sturm on behalf of Slovenia.

HOLMEC - An event is to be held at the Holmec border crossing at 6 PM to pay tribute to the victims of the 1991 War of Independence. Holmec was the site of a battle between the Slovenian police and the Yugoslav Army.

LJUBLJANA - The Health and Social Care Trade Union is to present its remarks about the draft bill that deals with licences to private practitioners for publicly-funded health care at a press conference scheduled for 11 AM.

PULA, Croatia - Slovenian representatives will be attending a panel on the management of hazardous waste in the Northern Adriatic ports of Croatia, Slovenia and Italy.

LJUBLJANA - The Slovenian Consumers' Association is to present an updated black list of euro-related price hikes at a press conference scheduled for 11 AM.

TURIN, Italy - The International University Sports Federation (FISU) is to select the host cities for the 2011 Universiades ahead of the opening of this year's Winter Universiade in Turin. Slovenia's second-largest city, Maribor, is vying to organise the winter games along with Erzurum, Turkey. The decision is to be made known at 7 PM.

LJUBLJANA - STA is to publish a feature ahead of the Biathlon World Cup meet that is to take place on the Pokljuka Plateau (N) between Wednesday and Sunday. (STA)
