Ljubljana, 31 January - Below is a schedule of events for Thursday, 1 February:
LJUBLJANA - The leaders of coalition parties are to convene at 2 PM for a meeting focusing on a package of legislation on the formation of provinces. A report on the implementation of the coalition agreement is also on the agenda. Unofficially, coalition leaders are also expected to debate a proposal to supplement the code of conduct for coalition deputies so as to prevent them from walking out on parliamentary sessions in case of bills on which the coalition has not reached a consensus. Under the changes, coalition MPs would also not be allowed to back interpellation motions against ministers. (STA/PHOTO)
LJUBLJANA - The session of parliament continues at 9 AM. The agenda includes a bill on state property, which is to implement common rules for managing all state, municipal and regional property. Deputies are also expected to take a vote on amendments to state prosecution and criminal procedure acts. Under the changes, the investigation of crimes perpetrated by the police will be conducted by a special department as part of the special task force fighting organised crime at the Office of the State Prosecutor General.
LJUBLJANA - The cabinet convenes a regular session at 10 AM. The agenda includes a draft decree on financial incentives for foreign direct investment and a 2007 plan to ensure road safety. A press conference is scheduled for 1 PM. (STA/PHOTO)
VALLETTA, Malta - Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel is to take part in a two-day informal meeting of EU foreign ministers from the Mediterranean, which starts with a working dinner.
LJUBLJANA - MP Barbara Zgajner Tavs, the chair of the parliament's Commission on the Prevention of Corruption, is to speak to the press at 12:30 PM following a meeting with an OECD working group on the prevention of kickbacks in international transactions.
LJUBLJANA - The Trade Union of Journalists and the Journalists' Association of Slovenia are to present a proposal for basic rules on journalists' independence; at 11 AM.
LJUBLJANA - The Advertising Chamber is to present the 2006 data on the circulation of print media at 1 PM. (STA)
LJUBLJANA - The supervisory board of rail operator Slovenske zeleznice is to convene, to discuss, among other things, a report listing measures to tackle violations found in a Court of Audits report. Statements for the press are scheduled for 4:30 PM.
BADALONA, Spain - Union Olimpija is to face Spain's Juventut in the 14th round of the basketball Euroleague. The game starts at 8:15 PM. (STA)
