Ljubljana, 31 January - Answering the question about the new round of discussions on granting Slovenia a mandate for the negotiations with EU, Santer said that it is necessary to settle some problems which do not fall within the competence of the EU Commission, but were rather triggered of by one of the members of the Union. Santer hopes that these difficulties will be bridged, for Slovenia is according to its history and roots part of European civilization. Santer sees no reason for Slovenia not to make contacts with the EU in broadest sense.
