Idrija to Found Mercury Research Centre after Mine Closes
Idrija, 2 October - The Idrija mercury mine, which gave 13% of all mercury produced in the world, will after 500 years close down in 2008. One of the shafts has already been turned into a tourist attraction and the town is now planning to found an information & research centre for mercury.
