Ljubljana, 17 November - Slovenians elected Danilo Tuerk the new president of Slovenia with 68% of the vote in the November 11 run-off. The outcome was however quickly overshadowed by Prime Minister Janez Jansa's announcement that the government was thinking of resigning in the wake of the "poor results" by Lojze Peterle, the candidate backed by the centre-right coalition parties. In the end Jansa called a vote of confidence in parliament, sparking fierce partisan debates.
