REVIEW OF THE MOST IMPORTANT EVENTS IN SLOVENIA IN AUGUST 1992

Ljubljana, 4 September - People in Slovenia, especially those whose life depends directly on the earth, will remember this August for the tremendous drought with its catastrophic consequences, especially for Prekmurje and some other farming areas. Some forecasts assume that this could worsen the economic situation, since the government has decided that this autumn it will not prevent any more companies without a promising future from going bankrupt. This might stimulate a wave of labour protests, particularly in some industrial parts, especially after the August negotiations between the government and trade unions on basic wages failed.
