The Democratic Party on Catechism in Public Schools

Ljubljana, 9 September - Presently there are some hot debates "for" and "against" catechism in compulsory education. Today, the Democratic Party (DS) has presented its views against the introduction of a special subject on religions. The Democrats are convinced that educators are obliged to respect all religious convictions or ethical principles as stated in UNESCO's Convention against discrimination. At the same time, this is a logical principle which was violently infringed upon by the former state. Thus all pupils were discriminated against, not only the believers, as Ljubljana's Archbishop Dr. Alojzij Šuštar has said.
