Drnovšek Conversing with Ljubljana's Businessmen

The Slovenian government, which operates with limited resources itself, perfectly understands that the economy is in an extremely difficult position. Last year's 15% decrease in the GNP was strongly reflected in the economy and in the lower standard of living this year. The government's efforts were especially oriented towards stopping the inflation which, with its 5 to 6 % monthly growth rate, menaced to grow into hyperinflation. And that would be much more difficult to stop. "That is why we have to curb inflation today, in spite of the pre-electoral period and in spite of actual conditions, which are unfavourable to business," said Dr. Janez Drnovšek, the President of the Slovenian government, while talking with businessmen from Ljubljana today.
