Trubar Year Dedicated to Father of Slovenian Written Word

Ljubljana, 2 January - This year Slovenia will be honouring the man who wrote and published the first Slovenian books, thus laying the foundations for Slovenian written language and cultural development in general. Primoz Trubar (1508-1586) was the central figure of Protestant Reformation in Slovenia who followed the belief of this 16th century European movement that books should be written in a language that people can understand.
