The parliamentary EU Affairs Committee did not discuss the nomination of Marta Kos for Slovenia's EU commissioner candidate as initially requested by the government as the stand-off between the government and the opposition continues. The government thus sent to parliament another request for a session.

Employers and trade unions repeated their respective opposition to and support for the government's set of tax changes as they met with government officials on the Economic and Social Council on Friday. The employers' proposal to reject the changes, which the government adopted two weeks ago, was however voted down.

The trust in a two-state solution has to be rebuilt, Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon told the STA after the meeting of ministers on the situation in Gaza and the Middle East held on Friday in Madrid. The challenges are very complex and a potential escalation would be a threat to European security, Fajon said.
