Delo: Drnovšek Calls for Bank of Slovenia to Balance Tolar's Exchange Rate

Ljubljana, 25 May - Premier Janez Drnovšek talked about exchange rate policy in an interview with the daily Delo and said that he rejects the opinions according to which the Bank of Slovenia (BS) would control the stability of Slovene tolar and the Government would be in charge of the production and working posts. The Government on the one hand according to Drnovšek "does not renounce the explicit anti-inflation policy", the BS on the other hand should inspect how to neutralize the overvalued tolar against other currencies in the framework of its instruments. This, however, is by no means "a call for devaluation", said Drnovšek. The appreciation of the tolar can in the long-run according to Drnovšek hamper the production and working posts.
