Daily Delo on Slovenia's Negotiations with the EU
Ljubljana, 25 May - Daily Delo's correspondent from Brussels Stojan Žitko writes about disappointment caused by the last-minute obstacles in adopting an agreement on Slovenia's association in the European Union, despite the fact that this was only an unrealized initiation. To sooth this feeling is the fact that it did not happen due to Italy's opposition. This postponement was by the looks of it caused mainly by Greece which brought out its demands which could not be fulfilled even by its European partners. The commentator maintains that it is completely unimportant what does Slovene association agreement say on Greek demands. Fairly unimportant is also the fact that Slovenes could not buy immovables in the Greek border area. The commentator writes that the reason for concern is the fact that every week of postponement can cause new temptations to the EU members. Now to Greece, later maybe even to Italy.
