Doctors' union signs annex to collective labour agreement, continues strike

Despite initial reluctance, the trade union of doctors and dentists FIDES, whose members have been on strike since 15 January, signed the annex to the collective agreement for doctors and dentists on Friday. However, it will not sign the umbrella public sector collective agreement and will not end the strike.

The government and public sector unions signed on Friday collective agreements and accords that finalise the biggest overhaul of the public sector pay system in 15 years. With sufficient union support secured, the changes to the pay system are set to take effect on 1 January, resulting in a gradual rise of salaries over the coming three years.

National archives moved to new premises in Poljanska Road

The new premises of the Archives of the Republic of Slovenia were inaugurated on Friday as Culture Minister Asta Vrečko visited the renovated and expanded former military barracks in Poljanska Road in Ljubljana, which itself has an interesting past. Brussels downgrades Slovenia's GDP growth forecast for 2024 to 1.4%

The European Commission has downgraded its gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast for Slovenia for this year from 2.3% to 1.4%. Its 2025 forecast has been slightly downgraded, by 0.1 percentage points to 2.5%. A 2.6% GDP growth is meanwhile expected in 2026.

Petrol's revenue down 13% in Jan-Sep, net profit up 30%

Slovenia's largest energy group Petrol reported on Friday revenues of EUR 4.5 billion for the first nine months, a 13% decline compared to the same period last year. Despite the lower revenue, fuel sales volumes increased and the group's net profit rose by 30% to EUR 123.6 million.
