Government Approves 1996 Draft Budget

After longstanding and heated coalition negotiations, Slovene government last week unanimously approved the 1996 draft budget. According to Minister of Finance Mitja Gaspari, Parliament is to begin the treatment of the 1996 draft budget at the beginning of the next week. If everything goes smoothly in the Parliament, the budget could be adopted by the end of the year, and, consequently, Slovenia could avoid pre-election budget deals before the next year legislative elections. If Slovene legislators light the green light to the 1996 draft national budget, the budget users will for the first time be spared of living on "twelfths" in the 1996 budget year.
