Borut Sajovic, deputy group leader for the ruling Freedom Movement, has been named candidate for defence minister, Deputy Prime Minister Matej Arčon announced on Tuesday. He would succeed Marjan Šarec, who has been elected a member of the European Parliament.

Borut Sajovic, put forward on Tuesday as candidate for defence minister, told the STA that the ministry he is about to take over is in good shape. He says there are competent people on the team and he is counting his past experience in local politics to serve him well.

Education Minister Darjo Felda has tendered his resignation with Prime Minister Robert Golob to nominate Vinko Logaj, director of the Education Institute, as his replacement, Deputy Prime Minister Matej Arčon told reporters after a meeting of the ruling coalition on Tuesday.

The Slovenian candidate for European commissioner Marta Kos will be in charge of the enlargement portfolio in the new European Commission line-up, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced in Strasbourg on Tuesday. She noted that the procedure to confirm Kos's candidacy in Slovenia is still ongoing.
