Peterle Fails to Get Candidacy for CoE Secretary General

Ljubljana, 15 December - Slovenian MEP Lojze Peterle (NSi/EPP) failed to get the Foreign Ministry to nominate him as a candidate in next year's election for secretary general of the Council of Europe (CoE) by the deadline on Sunday. Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec told the STA that Peterle had filed his proposal too late for the government to debate it.
