Book Day in Slovenia Pleased Readership and Authors, Attracted Criticism of State

In the country where reading in contrast with the trends of world wide statistic data is not decreasing but rather increasing, Book Day was a festive event for almost everyone: poets and other authors were reading their works in the streets and squares, meeting their readership, publishers and book marketers offered books at modest, even half prices, educators, teachers and students were hosting the authors of the books they are studying from or the authors they are studying about, not to mention reading enthusiasts of all ages and social strata. The "sordid" state got the worst of it (not the first nor the last time), being the one which is not enough or not at all sympathetic towards books, and the one which takes more from the books than it gives away for them.
