Programme of Active Employment Policy Measures

The confrontation with the functioning of the labour market in the process of economy transformation, which Slovenia had to face after the changes in the political system in the early 90s, was not an easy task. This can be confirmed by the fact that in the past six-year period almost a half of the active population in Slovenia found itself, at least temporarily, on the unemployment list of the National Employment Office. The question how to relieve the consequences of surging unemployment, which, owing to the shortage of jobs and mass redundancies, affected all levels of society, posed an enormous challenge to institutions in charge practically overnight.
