The coalition Freedom Movement, SocDems and the Left have agreed to cancel the 24 November referendum on a second unit at the Krško nuclear power station after it became clear that the public does not feel sufficiently informed about the project. The opposition Democrats (SDS) proposed calling off the vote earlier on Monday.

Prime Minister Robert Golob will be in Washington on Tuesday to meet US President Joe Biden in what will be the first visit to a US president by a Slovenian prime minister in 18 years. The prime minister's office and the White House have said that the meeting will focus on energy security, cooperation and key international challenges.

Slovenia is capable of financing the construction of a second unit at the Krško nuclear power station with a combination of equity and debt financing, Finance Minister Klemen Boštjančič said on Monday. He warned, however, that clear rules would have to be laid down.
