Thousands flock to carnival celebrations

Ptuj/Cerknica, 7 February - Some 40,000 people flocked to the medieval town of Ptuj on Sunday for the 56th Kurentovanje, the traditional Shrovetide celebration dedicated to the local costume characters, the kurenti. More than 2,500 people took part in the country's biggest parade, which recently placed seventh among 101 greatest shows in the world by the Lonely Planet.
