Slovene Press on the Olympic Park Bombing

Ljubljana, 29 July - Daily Delo (Ljubljana) writes in its commentary "Terrorists Without Reason" that the bombing in Atlanta faced the United States with a highly non-American question. Pragmatic Americanism is namely based on the supposition that all problems can be solved and all obstacles overcome. However, no sensible strategy is immediately at hand against a bomber who plants primitive bombs at random, denys to disclose his political identity if he has any at all and does not even bother to tell why he is doing it. A typical American response to acts of terrorism supported by foreign countries was political and economic isolation. The method was employed with Iran, Libya and Syria. To religious terrorism US reacted by developing police and military infrastructure in the countries where it originated providing the authorities were willing to suppress militant groups. This was the case in Egypt. In countries where terrorism originated from internal conflicts, the US sponsored rival organizations which proved harmless for America. But it is impossible to threaten with political and economic sanctions the federal state of Georgia for not delivering the Atlanta bomber, neither is it possible to ban air flights from the state of New York until it can secure safety for American citizens. There is nothing one can do. Newt Gingrich said they did everything. Had they sent one more policeman to the Olympic village, US would look like a police state. With troops patrolling the streets in camouflage uniforms, Atlanta already reminds of Hebron. All that lacks is a curfew, concludes Delo.
