Hikers to gather in Ljubljana for memorial event
Ljubljana, 4 May - Hikers of all ages will gather in Ljubljana between Thursday and Saturday for a traditional hike that will take them along an almost 35 km-long memorial walkway around the capital to honour the memory of the occupied capital in WWII.
The 60th "Walk Along the Wire" hike will first see pre-school children walk along a part of the memorial walkway on Thursday, followed by primary and secondary school students on Friday.
The main part of the memorial hike will take place on Saturday, when individuals and families take a hike along individual parts or the entire path, called the Path of Remembrance and Comradeship. The traditional run of threesomes along the path will also be held.
The run of threesomes will be held in the 12.5-km and 29-km categories for adults and in the 3-km category for primary and secondary school students.
On Sunday, Slovenians will join the 3rd Wings for Life World Run, which will take place in more than 35 locations on all continents. All runners will start the race at 11 AM UTC regardless of their location.
In Slovenia, the race will start in Ljubljana's Congress Square and will continue towards the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, passing the towns of Domžale, Kamnik and Cerklje na Gorenjskem.
Runners and wheelchair competitors, from beginners to elite athletes, will race side by side to stay ahead of the Catcher Car, which will be chasing them. The race ends when the last competitor gets "caught" by the car.
