Three Hearts Marathon dominates this week's sport schedule

Ljubljana, 18 May - The top recreational event of this week is the 36th Three Hearts Marathon, the country's oldest event of its kind, which will take place on Saturday, starting and concluding in the town of Lendava (NE), while also going through a tiny part of neighbouring Austria.

The event, labelled by the organisers a "celebration of running, recreation and life", will also feature a half-marathon, a 10-km run, a 5.5-km run and a 9-km Nordic walk challenge.

Non-competitive events at the marathon taking place in the region of Pomurje furthermore include a 4-hour hike and three running events for children (1,000 m, 600 m and 300 m).

The 4th UNESCO Run of Youth will meanwhile take place in Ptuj on Wednesday, hosted by the Ptuj Secondary School and starting in the centre of Slovenia's oldest town. More than 2,000 children from local schools and kindergartens are expected to show up.

The event is of non-competitive nature and looks to promote a healthy lifestyle and UNESCO values and present the rich history of the medieval town.

On Friday, business executives will have the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the lake of Bled in the north-west as they take part in the Slovenia Business Run, which is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) and the AmCham.

Representatives of companies will run in three-member relays around the lake, with each competitor making one circle. The event has a humanitarian note: for each completed lap, the organisers will donate funds for a selected organisation.
