Property tax blueprint confirmed

The government confirmed on Monday a blueprint for a property tax that is expected to net EUR 600 million per year by taxing homes in which the owners do not live as a means of increasing the supply of rental properties and driving down rent.

Meeting EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos during her first official visit in Ljubljana on Monday, PM Robert Golob labelled her appointment to such a prominent post a significant acknowledgement of Slovenia's standing. Kos stressed the importance and benefits of EU enlargement, describing her portfolio as one of the key ones in the Commission.

Two Hungarian hikers stranded in Kamnik-Savinja Alps

Two Hungarian hikers have been stranded in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps since Sunday after they lost their way in the Kamnik Saddle area in poor weather conditions, Radio Slovenija first reported. A rescue mission had to be suspended yesterday evening due to bad weather but it continues today. One of the hikers is believed to have broken his leg.

My Voice, My Choice gets required 1 million signatures

The My Voice, My Choice petition campaign for the right to safe and accessible abortion in Europe, spearheaded by Slovenia's 8 March Institute, has collected the required one million signatures, the NGO said on Sunday. The initiative would like to collect an additional 200,000 signatures to make sure there is enough verified signatures.
