The government endorsed the decree forming the digital coalition in line with the country's smart specialisation strategy until 2020 that was adopted in March.

The strategy sets the key strategic development guidelines and is complemented by the cyber security strategy and the plan for the development of networks of the next generation by 2020.

The digital coalition will feature representatives of business, the civil society, R&D and government services. Together they will discuss future development, digitalisation, and new technologies, Koprivnikar told the press after the government session.

He said that he was happy that Slovenia would be among the first countries to take this step.

The official founding of the digital coalition is scheduled to take place at a summit of Slovenian businesses in Bled on 24 November.

At the summit, business executives will set the priorities for digitalisation of infrastructure, industry, services and the regulatory system.

The digital coalition will carry out measures to raise the awareness of the importance of ICT and internet for the development of society, improve the level of digital literacy and e-skills among the population, and raise the number of highly trained ICT experts.

It will also strive to open the education system and the system of informal education to new ideas and adjust it to new generations and their needs.

The government has also been making efforts to make digital services equally accessible to all generations.
