Škofic first Slovenian to win men's World Cup in lead climbing
Kranj, 27 November - Domen Škofic has become the first Slovenian to win the men's World Cup in lead climbing, his second place at the final event of the season in Kranj on Sunday enough for the overall title.
The 22-year-old opened the season with a win in Villars and bagged two more wins and four more podium finishes, including the first in Kranj, throughout the season.
"I'm very happy to have won the overall World Cup in lead. It's amazing, at the beginning I didn't believe I'd be in race for the overall victory," said Škofic after the event.
Slovenia's Urban Primožič also competed in Kranj, taking sixth place in what was his farewell event.
By winning the rankings overall, Škofic joined Slovenian female climbers Maja Vidmar and Mina Markovič, who had previously won World Cup titles.
His success will be rounded off tonight by 17-year-old Janja Garnbret, who secured the overall win in World Cup before the final event of the season and is looking strong in her climb to her first win in Kranj.
