Slovenian ambassador named ambassador of the year in Germany
Ljubljana, 13 December - German monthly Diplomatisches Magazin has picked Slovenian Ambassador to Germany Marta Kos Marko for its Ambassador of the Year Award, media have reported. She was honoured for her "extraordinary" contribution to the strengthening of social, economic and cultural relations between Slovenia and Germany.
The magazine highlighted gender equality, refugee crisis and European issues as the topics the ambassador focused on.
"I take the award as a recognition for the entire team (at the embassy). After all there are more than 180 bilateral and multilateral ambassadors in Berlin and I find it very important that the activities of someone from a relatively small country are noticed," the ambassador told the daily Delo, which ran the news on Sunday.
Kos Marko received the award on 4 December at a ceremony, at which Minister of State for Europe at the German Federal Foreign Office Michael Roth praised the ambassador as an advocate of Europe and human rights.
Ambassador of the year is picked by the editors of Diplomatisches Magazin after consultations with parliament and the Foreign Ministry, according to Delo.
Marta Kos Marko has been ambassador to Germany since 2013.
