According to Sevnica Mayor Srečko Ocvirk, an influx of visitors to the town in central Slovenia on the Sava river is expected.

For them and the foreign media interested in the town where Melania was raised, regular tours of the town will be organised, starting this morning.

Sevnica's tourist offering and local brands will be presented at the castle atop a hill near the old town.

Guided tours of the 12th century castle will be organised on Saturday and a new restaurant will open there tomorrow evening.

On Sunday, the eighth grapevine pruning festival will take place at the vineyard at the south side of the castle hill.

All events will be admission-free, Ocvirk told the STA.

In the past, Sevnica was known mainly for its successful companies such as lingerie maker Lisca, shoe maker Kopitarna and chemical company Tanin Sevnica, while recently it has attracted the interest of international media for being the home town of the next first lady of the US.

Settled in prehistory, the first written mention of the town, under the name Liehtenwalde, dates back to the 13th century. In 1322 it received market rights and in 1952 became a town.

Today, it has a population of almost 5,000.
