Ljubljana Castle boasts record visitor numbers
Ljubljana, 3 February - Slovenia had a record tourism year in 2016 and the capital Ljubljana was one of the driving forces of the increased tourist figures. Ljubljana Castle, the city's landmark, thus saw 1.25 million visitors in 2016, up 56,000 from the year before and a new record.
Accordingly, the number of visitors taking the castle funicular reached a new record as well, as over 413,000 people took the ride to castle hill, up almost a fifth from the year before, according to the public institute managing Ljubljana Castle.
The castle is one of the biggest attractions in Ljubljana, and the city one of the top destinations in Slovenia.
Recently revealed statistics show Ljubljana accounts for a fifth of all tourist arrivals in the country and 12% of overnight stays.
