Skiing: Štuhec finishes World Cup season second overall

Aspen, 19 March - Slovenia's Ilka Štuhec finished the Alpine Ski World Cup second overall as the season concluded this weekend in Aspen, US. It was by far the best season for the 26-year-old from Maribor whose previous seasons were marred by injuries.

Štuhec won a total of 1,325 points and was second only to Mikaela Shiffrin of the US, who collected 1,643 points to win the crystal globe for the overall winner of the World Cup.

This is the best result for Slovenia following the overall win by Tina Maze in the in the 2012/13 season.

Štuhec meanwhile won the small crystal globes for overall wins in the downhill and Alpine combined competitions and is the reigning world champion in the downhill.

She won a total of seven World Cup races this season and had 13 podium finishes to win 508 more points than in the previous six seasons combined. She missed three seasons between 2009 and 2011 due to injuries.
