Three Hearts Marathon for runners, Wine Spring for cyclists
Radenci, 17 May - The top recreational event this week will be the 37th Three Hearts Marathon, the country's oldest event of its kind which will take place on Saturday, starting and concluding in Radenci in north-eastern Slovenia. But there will also be interesting events for cyclists.
"In the 36-year history of the event, the route of the Three Hearts Marathon has been run by close to half a million hearty runners. Unlike city runs, a major part of the route in Radenci runs through nature, in surrounding villages, which gives the marathon a special touch," the organisers said.
The event will also feature a half-marathon, a 10-km run, a 5.5-km run and a 9-km Nordic walk challenge. Non-competitive events at the marathon include a 4-hour hike and three running events for children (1,000 m, 600 m and 300 m).
For cyclists, the 35th Trip to the Wine Spring Festival in Metlika, also taking place on Saturday, will offer a 100-km ride from the Rakovnik train station in Ljubljana to Metlika in southern Slovenia.
The trip is intended for recreational cyclists who feel fit and capable of covering the track, which includes 7 kilometres of macadam.
On Sunday, cyclists will be able to explore the Slovenian Istria as part of the event called With Bicycle to the Refosco Holiday, visiting local sights, enjoying in local cuisine, and exploring local history and thematic cycling paths.
