British beer festival to kick off in Ljubljana

Ljubljana, 7 September - Connoisseurs will get the chance to enjoy a vast variety of craft beers in Ljubljana between Thursday and Saturday, as the British Craft Beer Festival will open at Kino Šiška tonight with toasts by UK Ambassador Sophie Honey and Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Janković and a concert by the Idles.

Visitors will be able to sample 80 varieties of beer by 16 small- and medium-sized breweries from the UK and learn more about beer from Jane Peyton, an expert and author of several books on beer.

The festival, which comes three weeks after the Great British Beer Festival in London, will be hosted by the UK Embassy in Ljubljana, Kino Šiška and the British-Slovenian Chamber of Commerce.

The participating breweries hope to impress Slovenian beer lovers and start selling their products to pubs, specialised shops and distributors in the country.

Although the festival will focus on business, it will also be an opportunity to toast the new British royal baby, the UK Embassy said on Facebook after the announcement was made by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge earlier this week.
