Thousands join forces to build world's largest collage
Brezovica, 26 October - Nearly 30,000 children, youth and adults in Slovenia have joined forces and provided thousands of drawings to create what they hope to be the largest collage in the world. On Thursday morning, students completed the collage in a field outside Ljubljana and are now awaiting the verdict of the Guinness Book of Records.
The collage of drawings was put together in the form of a simple sun in a stick figure drawing. The project included toddlers as well as the elderly.
The head of the project, Kristijan Musek Lušnik, told Radio Slovenija today that the collage features side by side drawings by a 1-year-old toddler and a 102-year-old lady.
Schools, kindergartens, nursing homes and several other institutions took part in the project that kicked off in March.
One of the coordinators also told Radio Slovenija that the schools mixed children of different age groups when they worked on their drawings - so that six graders worked along second graders, giving them a different experience from what they are used to.
Musek Lešnik said in a press release that he wanted children to experience what it feels like to reach a demanding and significant goal and to learn the importance of cooperation.
