Run up tallest building in Slovenia, hike in Vipava Valley

Ljubljana/Šmarje, 15 November - Recreational events of note this week include a run up the 479 stairs of the tallest building in Slovenia and a hike over the hills around the Vipava Valley in western Slovenia remembering Slovenia's first enologist.

For the 4th Alive Step Up, the Crystal Palace in the BTC shopping district in Ljubljana will become for one day, on Saturday, a unique challenge to all who want to conquer it as fast as possible.

"The 89 metres, 20 storeys and 479 stairs will be a challenge for all runners, mountain runners, cyclists, hikers and other adrenaline lovers", the organisers say.

There will be two categories - Step Up (climb to the top one time) and Extreme Step Up (climb 3 times to the top), and the special category Alive Step Up, a relay for three-member teams.

The 17th Hike along Vertovec's Trails will meanwhile takes place in memory of the first Slovenian enologist Matija Vertovec (1784-1851).

The five-hour hike will run from Ustje to Jakulini, the birthplace of Matija Vertovec, and back, and will be accompanied by exhibitions, a mass and the concluding ceremony in Šmarje.
