Queen Elizabeth II's Lippizzaner dies in Lipica

Lipica, 30 November - The Lippizanner stallion given to Queen Elisabeth II as a symbolic gift during her 2008 visit to Slovenia died at the Lipica stud farm on Thursday. The 25-year-old 085 Favory Canissa XXII had a successful career as a dressage competition horse and fathered 29 foals, the stud farm said.

The last years of his life were slow-paced and comfortable, the stud farm added. Until the end, he was used in the training of young riders, who benefited immensely by riding the highly-trained stallion.

The exact cause of his death will be determined by an autopsy and the Queen will be informed about his death through appropriate channels, the press release said.
