Want to run a race this year? Time to start training!
Letuš, 14 February - While many Slovenians are beyond happy that winter has decided to stay a while longer and are spending their weekends and afternoons on ski slopes, the most dedicated runners are already well into their race training despite the snow, slush and cold temps.
A group run will be organised by the Volkswagen Ljubljana Marathon, the biggest race in the country, which will be held on 28 October. More than 100 runners have already taken part in the first two group runs this year.
The third event, scheduled for Saturday morning, will be an easy run. Participants will split into two groups running either 5 or 7 kilometres. Starting point is the Koseški Bajer pond in Ljubljana's Koseze borough.

Those more advanced in their training who feel like they are ready for a long hill run can sign up for "8 Ur Slivnice" (8 Hours of Slivnica Hill), a challenge in which participants are given eight hours to make as many climbs as they can up Slivnica just outside the town of Cerknica.
Last year, the fastest participant climbed the 480m/3.5km ascend eleven times, the most since the event was first staged in 2014. Those who will complete at least four climbs between 8 AM and 4 PM on Saturday will get a free Jota, a traditional hearty soup made with sauerkraut or pickled turnips, in the hill-top cabin.
